A Rustic & Personalised Wedding day on the Yorkshire Dales

A Rustic & Personalised Wedding day on the Yorkshire Dales

Here at The Boho Bride Guide we are thrilled to be featuring the love story of Meg and Jordan who tied the knot at a stunning wedding venue just outside of Ripon, nestled in amongst the picturesque scenery of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The Love Story…

Meg and Jordan have been together for 7 years, originally meeting after finishing school and finding jobs at the local McDonalds and quickly became best friends. Their relationship flourished and grew into building a life and family together.

The Venue - The Owl Barn at Little Seeds

Meg and Jordan were looking for a venue that was a little different to the norm. They wanted to put their own stamp on their day, where they had free reign to get creative and design something that truly reflected them as a couple.

During their wedding venue search, they discovered The Owl Barn at Little Seeds. Meg describing their find as ‘an absolute gorgeous hidden gem!’

The Owl Barn at Little Seeds is a centuries-old, rustic, wedding venue oozing character and charm, set on a working farm in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Small enough to create a romantic atmosphere for elopements, yet large enough to seat 50 guests.

Their outside ceremony locations offer sweeping views of the Dales, quiet intimate woodlands and romantic water edges, with more space and flexibility to create a mini festival-style event. The numerous backdrops made for a variety of photography opportunities for the couple to take advantage of when they sneaked away for an hour with their photographer to have a bit of time to themselves and celebrate their marriage.

With onsite glamping accommodation for up to thirty guests and options to hire the venue exclusively, hire just the barn or create something larger, more extravagant. Their venue offers a blank canvas setting immersed in the beauty of the wild Yorkshire Dales. Combining a unique wild location, with a relaxed, personal, approach to wedding coordination, they have created a truly unique wedding venue.

The unique venue also offered a recently renovated upstairs dining space inside the Owl Barn barn, so Meg and Jordan decided it would be the perfect place to have our wedding breakfast. The couple added, ‘The room created such a warm and whimsical atmosphere and again was another showcase as to how amazing this venue is!’

The Wedding Reception & Table Decor

For their wedding breakfast the couple decided they were going to have an afternoon tea provided by Messy Buns Ripon, and wanted the tables to have a romantic vintage feel. Meg scoured the internet for hours purchasing any vintage tea sets she felt would fit the aesthetic, and put Jordan to work making the cake stands out of any spare plates that were left over out of the sets. They included pink roses in the floral displays, and decorated the table with tea light holders and sprigs of gypsophila.

Meg did all of the planning herself, which she admits, at times was hard, but it meant that they ended up having a wedding day that was absolutely perfect and truly reflected them as a couple.

The Locally Grown Wedding Flowers

'Our florist deserved a medal for what she created with the brief she was given' explained Meg. Being such a laid back couple it didn’t feel right to them to stress over what flowers they would have on the day. So they assured the florist as long as the flowers matched their colour scheme and had a garden gathered feel they would be happy! Not only were all of the flowers grown locally to the venue, but they discovered on the day, that the florist had used flowers that had been a staple in Meg’s late grandma’s garden. Rachel from Rose Cottage Barn did an incredible job!

Sweetie Pick ‘n’ Mix as Wedding Favours

Meg and Jordan used ‘his’ and ‘her’ sweets as favours. They created two types of pick ‘n’ mix sweetie bags for their special day. One that included ‘his’ favourite sweets and one that included ‘her’ favourite sweets. All the guests absolutely loved this idea and it seemed to put a smile on everybody’s faces.

Meg also made activity packs for the kids to keep them entertained throughout the day. They were filled with all the kids' favourite toys and sweets and were just another way for us to show our appreciation and love to the kids.

Candid Wedding Photographer in Yorkshire

Meg and Jordan were not naturally comfortable in front of the camera, and went as even far as they ‘hated’ their photo taken. So finding a wedding photographer who specialised in candid and natural photos was a must for them. ‘When we found Leanne, from the first time we spoke to her we knew that she was the photographer for us. Her work is absolutely incredible and she made us feel so at ease on the day.’

A closing message from Meg...

'We are far from a traditional couple and we definitely do things on our own terms. We think our wedding day summed us up as a couple perfectly, and we hope it shows other couples that it’s ok to step away from societal norms and do what makes you as a couple happy. We know a petite wedding isn’t for everybody but it was the best decision we made and took away so many of the pressures that couples face when planning a ‘big’ wedding.'

Thank you Meg and Jordan and massive congratulations!!!
