Tip No.1 - Be Picky when Choosing Your Cake Supplier

Your wedding cake is more than just a 'cake' that gets carved up in the evening to soak up the 'one too many beverages' that your guests may have consumed. It is a visual representation of you as a newly wed couple and your wedding day vibe. It is the 'bringer together' of your guests that may be meeting each other for the first time, and gives a great talking point to spark their first conversations together. It is a fabulous photo opportunity that will be treasured for years to come.

So researching and selecting a cake designer that you like, 'click' with, and feel that they 'get you as a couple', is essential to ensure you are over the moon with the wedding day result.

.

Tip No.2 - Be Prepared for your Consultation

Before your consultation, have some ideas prepared for the design of your wedding cake. I recommend creating a Pinterest Board of various types of wedding cakes that catch your eye, and inspiration for the cake design such as maybe a certain season, a place or colour palette you would like reflected in the design. the more reference points your cake designer has, the easier it will be to explain your cake requirements.

It is important that you have also discussed the design as a couple prior to your consultation. This will enable a clearer design discussion with your cake designer, and prevent any potential tiffs!

Your consultation is also a great time to ask any questions to calm any concerns you may have, and clarify the process on the lead up to your big day.  So make sure you write these down beforehand, so they don't get missed.

Tip No.3- Invest Time in the Consultation Process

Spending quality time clarifying your design, and flavour selections with your cake designer is a 'must do', when it comes to creating your dream wedding cake. We are all busy people, especially when planning a wedding. But this time spent focusing on the detail of your cake will pay off when you finally see you stunning cake display, centre stage at your wedding celebration space.

Tip No.4 - You don't Just have to Settle for a Cake

There are so many options available if you are looking for something a little different from your traditional wedding cake display. A dessert table with a fake cake (or real), doughnut tower, brownie table, cake pops, literally so many options on offer! Pinterest trends are showing a +70% increase in searches related to 'Gravity-defying cake ideas', a +2x increase in searching 'Unusual cakes', and a +3x searc increae for ' Art cake ideas'. So don’t be scared to do something a bit different if that's what you want.

Tip No.5 - Don't be scared to ask your Cake Designer to Change the Design.

Don’t be scared to ask your cake designer to change the design or flavours when something has already been discussed and agreed in principle. Of course, this needs to be a timely decision, and within the timescales set out within your contract together.

But, plans change, wedding day styles develop as you get closer to your big day, and there is flexibility within your cake creation. So keep those communication channels open with your cake designer to finalise your design to your exact liking. Don’t forget it is YOUR wedding day and your dream wedding cake!

The key thing to remember is that this is your day, its all about you and your partner, so pick something you love. If you love chocolate, have chocolate. Or if you want something totally unique and extravagant then choose that!
